1.) Tell us how Lea Spirit Jewelry became a reality for you?
Lea Spirit was founded and launched in 2015. Natural gemstone jewelry has always been an obsession and longtime hobby of mine. The catalyst to making it something bigger happened in mid-2015 when my husband fell victim to a mass layoff at work. It just felt like the right time. I have to be honest. At first I didn’t put a lot of thought into it. I just did it. Sometimes we tend to overthink things and it can paralyze us. I opened an Etsy store and the rest is history, as they say. From Etsy, I went to Amazon Handmade, and then my own site leaspirit.com. Lea Spirit has been featured in a number of local Atlanta boutiques, most recently American Threads. I’ve done projects for well-known celebrities, and I recently created a special Lea Spirit prize package for The Price is Right, which will air sometime in September 2017. It still feels surreal and I pinch myself every day. I’m very fortunate to have great support from friends, family, Flourish, and of course all my incredible fans and customers.
2.) Is there an interesting story about the name of your business? Why did you choose it?
The meaning and etymology behind Lea is positive & happy. Not only is it a beautiful name but it describes who I try to be day in and day out. What I aspire to. During times of challenge or darkness it reminds me that there is omnipresent beauty and positive energy in the universe, if you only look for it. I combined Lea with Spirit to capture the powerful healing and metaphysical properties of the earthy gemstones and crystals I work with every day.
3.) Why do you feel it is important for people to support and buy handmade?
There are a number of reasons why Handmade is so important to me. Handmade is real. Handmade is unique. Handmade has personality. Handmade is how people directly share their incredible talents, love, and passion with others. It’s not factory produced. It is not “automated”. That kind of stuff you can get anywhere. You are buying a piece of someone, and what they care about. Handmade is small. It’s small business owners that work tirelessly to create such incredible things so they can advance their lives and support families. As a consumer, not only are you buying amazing things that you can’t find elsewhere, but you’re helping to support the person that was willing to share their craft with you. You’re filling your own needs and giving back at the same time. It’s wonderful!
4.) How has Flourish helped or inspired you?
Gosh. I really cannot say enough great things about what Flourish has done for me. My mentor. My inspiration. My sounding board. A shoulder to cry on. It is packed to the brim with fellow sellers, experts, and advice. Endless resources to help navigate the constant twists and turns of a small handmade business. Flourish stays on top of the “latest” so that I don’t have to. It gives me the time I need to focus on new products and my business.

5.) What does the future look like for Lea Spirit Jewelry?
Wow! What a great question. I have so many initiatives I’d like to work on in the second half of 2017 and 2018. A new website. The right partnerships to help boost brand exposure. Adding new product lines. Employees!! I need help! Really, just growing the business in a smart way and continuing to share my love with others!
